The skies of Earth are black with dust and ash. The land is split by gigantic fissures and its tectonic plates groan with stress. Mountain chains shiver; seas have evaporated to become barren deserts. Blood and ash rain from the darkening sky. Astropathic choirs sing evil portents and men go mad with fear.
The fleet of Horus hangs in orbit over the ravaged world. The defenders of Terra stand ready.Brother fights brother, and the universe hangs in the balance.

Horus Heresy is an epic board game for two players set in the dark future of Games Workshop’s preeminent Warhammer 40,000 universe. Players will clash in an apocalyptic final battle across the now war-torn surface of Terra, birthplace of the human race and the Imperium and now the location of its last stand.
The Horus Heresy occurred in the 31st millennium, ten-thousand years before the current events of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, at a time when the golden age of the Imperium was shattered by insidious betrayal. This final legendary “Battle of Terra” is the seminal moment of the Warhammer 40,000 mythos, setting into place some of the most significant elements of this rich canon.
This legendary tale of blasphemous treachery and insane heroism will come to life themoment you open the massive box, packed to the brim with more than one hundred magnificent sculpted, plastic playing pieces. Most of the large game board is filled by a beautiful map of Terra, centered upon the landscape immediately surrounding the Imperial Palace, magma-filled crevasses and all.
There are a number of placements scattered across the board, within which fit sculpted plastic terrain elements that rise above the landscape, depicting not only fortified bastions and towers, but the Imperial Palace itself. These strongholds are stunning in appearance, offering the Imperial player vital protection against enemy assault and orbital bombardments.
If you take the side of the Imperium, you will take on the role of the Emperor of Holy Terra himself, the beacon of hope for the future of all mankind who stands within the Imperial Palace surrounded by a host of his elite personal guard, the Adeptus Custodes.
Arrayed against the profane forces of Chaos are amassed all the forces who remain loyal to the cause of the Emperor. Awaiting your command are several legions of Space Marines, innumerable mass regiments of Imperial army and tank divisions, while defense laser batteries scan the skies for any sign of the forces of Chaos, and across the landscape lumber the last of the massive Imperial Titans – enormous walking temples of war, bristling with armament.
As the Traitor player, you will choose instead to callously betray the Imperium and personally lead the attack on Terra in the role of the Warmaster Horus. He was once the most trusted and loved scion of the Emperor, but now has turned entirely away from sanity and hope, twisted beyond recognition by the insidious taint of Chaos.
In orbit high above the planet is the Vengeful Spirit, the Warmaster’s flagship, from which Horus orchestrates this final assault upon the Imperial Palace. He eagerly awaits for his opportune moment to enter the fray and personally strike the Emperor down, in the name of the four ruinous powers of Chaos.
From your command center you will order forth legions of Chaos Space Marines who have turned away from the true light of the Emperor, armies of traitors and cultists eager to spread delicious mayhem, chaotic Thunderhawk gunship squadrons and drop pods that can deliver destruction with surgical precision, and lurking at the fringes of sanity – gibbering Chaos hordes and daemon forces from the Warp that thrash in malicious expectation of the moment they are released to the planet below.
There are no dice used while playing Horus Heresy. The game has been designed so both long-term strategic maneuvers and short-term combat are resolved entirely by a set of graceful, card-driven mechanics. Neither player will have the luxury of relying on a lucky roll of the dice. Instead, you will find yourself faced with difficult decisions every turn, and you are going to have to balance your priorities at every opportunity.
Horus Heresy delivers an exceptionally tense and epic game experience. Whether your allegiance is honorable or profane, Horus Heresy demands you bring every last shred of your tactical and strategic ability to the table. This is not a simplistic affair fought between a handful of skirmishing units, with individual combatants sprinting between areas of sparse cover across an open battlefield. This is war on an epic and unimaginable scale, the scope and significance of which has never been seen before or since!
