POSITION:  Buyer

DEPARTMENT:  Purchasing

LOCATION:  Alliance Midwest - Fort Wayne, Indiana

REPORTS TO:  Vice President of Purchasing

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Buyer position is a full time, salary position, working Monday – Friday in the Warehouse offices. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Analyze sales patterns to create purchase orders for both new and existing items for lines assigned
  • Manage inventory levels for both new and existing product
  • Analyze processes and recommend improvements
  • Maintain accurate and timely purchase order management
  • Work with vendors to reduce lead times and ensure timely availability
  • Provide adequate stock of goods to support distribution sales
  • Maintain the inventory database and manage transfers
  • Communicate with manufacturers, vendors, and internal customers via e-mail and telephone
  • Research questions from several different areas in the company
  • Set up new items in the purchasing/order system
  • Work with the Accounting Department to verify that invoices match purchase orders and items received
  • Attend trade shows
  • Assist the Department when other Buyers are out of the office
  • All other duties as assigned

 

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and the Internet is a must 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary 
  • Must have strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills are essential
  • Must have good time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to stay focused with limited supervision is a must
  • Applicants must have an excellent attendance record and work ethic
